Gyanvapi case: A major victory for Hindus as Varanasi court dismisses the masjid committee’s petition

The Muslim side’s appeal was denied by the Varanasi District Court on Monday. The court ruled that the Hindu parties’ action is maintainable in court.

The Varanasi Districts and Sessions Court upheld the Hindu side’s plea in the Gyanvapi mosque complex controversy on Monday. Five ladies had petitioned for permission to worship Hindu deities whose idols they believed were located on an outside facade of the Gyanvapi mosque. Moreover, The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee has said that the Gyanvapi mosque is a Waqf property. Also, they have questioned the petition’s viability. 

The Muslim side’s appeal was denied by the Varanasi District Court on Monday. The court ruled that the Hindu parties’ action is maintainable in court. Furthermore, The court has scheduled a session on September 22 and will now hear arguments on the merits. 

Gyanvapi Mosque

The decision in the Gyanvapi Shrinagar Gauri dispute case is proclaim by a single bench of district Judge AK Vishvesh. “The court denied the Muslim side’s plea and declared the litigation is maintainable. The next hearing is on September 22,” said counsel Vishnu Shankar Jain, who represents the Hindu side. 

According to India Today, petitioner Sohan Lal Arya stated that “Muslim petitioners are likely to appeal to Allahabad High Court on appeal.” 

“It’s a victory for the Hindu community. The next hearing is on September 22. It’s a foundation stone for the Gyanvapi temple. I appeal to everyone to keep the peace,” Sohan Lal said.

“Whatever the Supreme Court gave statement regarding Place of Worship in the Babri Masjid case, we were hopeful that all issues related to temples and mosques would be resolved,” Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahli, Member, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said, according to an India Today report. 

Now, The court issued its decision on the action contesting the title of the Gyanvapi mosque and the area surrounding it.

Earlier, The Hindu side declared the lower court that a Shivling was discovered during the videographic study of the Gyanvapi mosque-Shringar Gauri complex. Although, The Muslim side denied it.
